Garden

Landscape design by Lansing Duncan

The lawn begins at the entry and curves gracefully around the end of house to the recreation area seen in the distance. On the south-facing hillside beyond are located the satellite dish and the solar panels for heating the swimming pool.

The pool seen here and indicated on the the floor plan represents a change from my original design with which I was dissatisfied. Just after the excavation for the hole had begun I awoke in the middle of the night determined to find a better solution. By moonlight I finally came up with the idea of building the pool terrace as a "reflection" of the angle of the front terrace, and by daybreak I had the plans redrawn, new stakes set, and was ready to have the surprised excavation contractor back-fill part of his previous day's work.
